The Admiral Inn opened in 1947 as a two story apartment complex known as the Admiral Court. In the early 1950s, Ken Walters and Jack Matheson bought the apartment building and converted it to a 10 room motel. That did so well that in the late 50s, they bought the two adjancent properties, added a third story and extended the building, increasing the number of rooms from 10 to 29.

In 1988, Alan and Jean Margison bought the building and managed it beautifully. So well in fact that in 1997, they completely renovated the place, adding another four rooms. Typical of the Margisons, they did such a great job on the renovations that it won the 1997 Commercial Building Renovation award. While Alan and Jean are still connected to the hotel, it is now owned and run by another small group.

The philosophy behind the renovations, which we still adhere to today, is to give the hotel the ambience of a small B&B, yet offer the conveniences, privacy and feeling of a select motel or inn. We think it succeeded admirably and are proud to continue the tradition of five star service for our guests.

Our aim today is to provide you with attractive and comfortable accommodation at an affordable price. The rooms are well equipped and have a ‘homey’ feel. Our housekeepers are ‘house-proud’ and devote themselves to an immaculate standard of cleanliness. The front desk staff are not only friendly and courteous, but are knowledgable about the city and its attractions, and are delighted to act as concierge to offer you their excellent knowledge of all Victoria has to offer. What they don’t know, they’ll find out, and tailor to your needs and wants.

If there is anything we can do to make your stay more pleasant and trouble free, please ask!

By the late fifties they had bought and deolished two adjacant houses, and built a 3-storey addition increasing the number of rooms from 10 to 29.
Jean and Alan Margiosn acquired the Admiral in 1988 and in 1996-7 added 4 rooms and effected a complete inside and outside renovation.
